What’s lok-in’, everybody!?
Me? Oh, I’m just here with a melted brain trying to make sure I offer the best of me in all areas of my journey. Every single part of life is its own mini journey, you know? Developing my business has been one heck of an adventure so far and I know there is still so so SO much more to come, which is scary exciting!!
I thought I’d write a quick post to 1. introduce myself to you/establish some dialogue : ) and 2. to be able to look back at this in a month or 2 and see how I feel/how far I’ve come.
So, here goes it:
I’ll try to keep it short…
I’m Elizabeth Marks. 27 years of age (insert face young people make when they think they’re old but, in reality, they’re NOT haha). I grew up in Midwest City/Del City, Oklahoma and moved to Austin, Texas at the age of 24 in 2014. Hair is just naturally one of my “things”…one of my fiery-est of passions!!
I started working in a black-owned hair salon at the age of 12 or 13. Initially, I was the little girl cleaning mirrors, washing towels for the stylists/barber, cleaning the relaxer/color/glue/matted hair from their combs, and sweeping up remnants of old hairstyles as clients left the seat with a new “do” for their crowns. And…I absolutely LOVED every bit of it. I loved the smell of the salon. I loved how slow and quiet it was on Saturdays when we first arrived but then how laughter, loud conversations and bumpin’ old-school music captivated the entire atmosphere by noon, at the latest LOL. Man….it was the best. And, it’s still a part of me. Ingrained in my being. Lok-ed in, if you will ;p
I eventually upgraded to Beauticians’ Assistant and started learning the ins and outs of doing hair. They taught me everything and made me learn by throwing me to the wolves pretty much haha. Had to get it right or it was big trouble, so you better not mess up (yikes lol)! I did this all the way through college, which gave me the perfect dorm room side hustle…HAIR!
And now, here I am.
Trying to touch others’ lives through my own business and salon. I’m all about natural hair, natural love and mostly empowering little girls and boys with positive words and feel-good hair : ) I pray I’m able to make this into the beautiful vision that paints the sky of my thoughts on a daily basis. I’m stretching myself beyond the comfortable norm of my life…so I can see how amazing this can be. You should stay tuned.
